Two DAGS interns examining the underside of a tableDAGS offers two paid summer internships for graduate students or emerging professionals in history, material culture, and art history. For most of July, fellows travel around the Gulf South documenting historic decorative arts with the DAGS project manager.  Survey objects are typically in private collections, often in situ in historic homes. Fieldwork usually takes place between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, although some weekend or evening work may be necessary, depending on site availability. Applicants must be able to travel and work in the field for extended periods of time, and must be flexible and responsive to evolving work conditions and climates.

Summer 2024 internships will take place from July 8 through August 11, 2024. Field work will continue previous cataloging at the Shadows-on-the-Teche, a National Trust Historic Site in New Iberia, Louisiana.  The team will also document nearby private collections as time permits.

Internships benefits include:

  • $2,600 stipend
  • Housing and transportation during the fellowship, plus reimbursement for travel expenses to and from New Orleans
  • Scholarship to the New Orleans Antiques Forum, held annually at the conclusion of the fellowship term
  • Opportunity to publish a THNOC blog post in collaboration with staff editors
  • Orientation lectures, reading assignments, and field trips about Gulf South history
  • Training in object photography, data management, and primary source research
  • Resume-building hands-on experience that contributes to ongoing museum research
