The Historic New Orleans Collection will host an inventive presentation on John Law in collaboration with The National WWII Museum. Jim Chanos, Founder and Managing Partner of New York-based Kynikos Associates and financial fraud "detective," will share his vast knowledge and perspective on John Law, the man behind the founding of New Orleans and architect of one of the greatest financial frauds of all time, the Mississippi Bubble of 1718–1720. Titled "Was John Law—the Greatest Financial Fraudster of All Time—the True Father of New Orleans?" the lecture touches on the financial history surrounding the city’s earliest days. Chanos also teaches a course on the history of financial fraud at Yale University and the University of Wisconsin.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a light reception. The lecture will run from 6 until 7 p.m. with a light reception to follow until 7:30. This program is limited to members of THNOC and the National WWII Museum. Admission is free, but reservations are encouraged.
