Join researchers Ashley Oliphant and Beth Yarbrough as they discuss their groundbreaking new book, Jean Laffite Revealed: Unraveling One of America's Longest Running Mysteries (UL Press, 2021). The researchers have uncovered evidence indicating that Jean Laffite faked his death in the 1820s, hid for a time in Cuba, and then re-entered the United States using the alias Lorenzo Ferrer and settled first in Mississippi and then North Carolina. Since the publication of the book in March, Oliphant and Yarbrough have continued to make new discoveries, and participants in this virtual session will have the opportunity to learn about the latest developments, including new information that is emerging related to the discovery of a man who may have been the son of Laffite and his mistress in North Carolina. Join Oliphant and Yarbrough for a fresh look at the pirate who once called New Orleans home.
