The exhibition and companion catalog present the photographs of Douglas Baz and Charles Traub, who were photography students in Chicago when they stumbled upon the region on a 1973 road trip. The pair returned the next year and immersed themselves in the culture for six months, capturing their subjects’ in dance halls, stores, and homes, while stepping back to present a sweeping view of the industries, festivities, and geography of the region.

The opening party will feature music from the band Amis du Teche and refreshments from Hanford and Sons Boudin and Cajun Meats. Baz and Traub will also be available to sign copies of the book-length catalog that accompanies the exhibition. The book, which retails for $45, features more than 100 of the photographs and essays from the photographers and THNOC’s John H. Lawrence. The opening party is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
