For Saints fans, the 2009–10 season has been unforgettable—complete with thrilling victories, an NFC Championship, and the team’s first appearance in “the big game.” Fans all over the world have reveled in the team’s historic season, and now, thanks to a new project from The Historic New Orleans Collection and FOX 8, fans can add their experiences to the history books.

Black and Gold Memories
is a public history project designed to document this moment in New Orleans history. Saints fans across the world are invited to e-mail their experiences of the season, and selected stories will then be archived at The Historic New Orleans Collection alongside footage and materials from FOX 8.

“Our mission is to preserve the history and culture of New Orleans, and the Saints have been part of that culture for more than 40 years,” said Priscilla Lawrence, executive director of The Historic New Orleans Collection. “This year, we have seen such an outpouring of support for the team, and we wanted to develop a way to document this bright spot in our city’s history.”

“Some of our most fascinating materials come from individuals who had the foresight to stop and record events as they happened,” said Teresa Devlin, marketing manager for The Collection. “As an institution, we have documented moments in history before, and this seemed like another great addition to our collection.”

To participate in Black and Gold Memories, e-mail your stories to blackandgoldmemories@gmail.com. Each entry should include the sender’s first and last name, telephone number, and current city of residence. Those materials selected for archival will become property of The Historic New Orleans Collection.
